I didnt realize it was in April. Must have been when we were in the basement looking out the window & seeing the tornado touch down over the hill from us. That was the first & only time I've actually seen a tornado touch down - have had many nightmares from it.

My mom was driving home from school in LZ and saw the bottom of the pond at 59 & either 22 or Cuba Rd. Sucked that water and left her car untouched.

I remember that day well. We lived on Countryside Road and the tornado jacked up the roof on our house and destroyed the house across the street (the Bowens) and next door (the Harrers). Now I live in NYC and never expected to see big weather like that again. Except we had two tornadoes in the city last year - albeit much smaller than the Barrington storm.

WOW Ginger I remember that too. The tornado blew up the Hamburgs (Donna) barn yet their house right next to it was OK. Their neighbor's houses were completely destroyed and as my family was helping the Hamburgs clean up, I (with two frien

I remember that event and the devastation as well. Was that the day that 2 separate tornados touched down in Barrington?

I thought it was fun too! I really liked walking thru the 'woods' looking for receipts from the Knitters Nook, and anything else we could find. What an adventure...... I use the story all the time, on how God protected you, with all the walls falling in, but the one you guys were up against - falling out.

Ginger, I can't believe it's been 44 years. We moved to Biltmore the next year. But, I remember vividly Mrs. Piatrouski (not sure of the spelling) telling us the story of how the tornado took everything but their chimney. Also her daughter who was a pediatrician lost all her records.

It was my brothers' 21st birthday. Took our barn, neighbors roof, other neighbors whole house, including furnace from the basement. We found her wedding dress in the top of an oak tree.

I was pulled into the Ideal Delicatessen freezer as the tornado came through B'ton. The sky was green and everything was a mess as I walked home.

I can back-up Margaret Crouch's story about Honey Lake being sucked up by the tornado because we ended up with frogs - probably from the lake - in our living room after the tornado ripped through.

I remember that tornado well ... My family down in the basement and my brother Bob looking out the window telling us to look at that tornado. To this day when storms hit I'm as close to panicked as I was that day. Had I not seen the destruction it caused in the days that followed I'm sure I would be less of a basket case in storms now.
