570 5.11.11 - 9:29 AM Blood And Treasure by Abby Zimet

With Bin Laden gone, a look back at the grievous costs of the post-9/11 wars. The sheer numbers horrify. Over 6,000 U.S. deaths, over 100,000 Iraqis and Afghans killed and over three million displaced, hundreds of thousands of U.S. long-term and brain injuries, up to sixtrillion dollars. Waste, shame, rage.

I don't know, but the question you forgot to ask is. can Bin Laden, the various terrorists organization's and their member's and rouge states be forgiven for the millions of deaths and injuries they have engendered.
I truly tire of this disingenuous unilateral blame game.
Yeah, they made us do it.
And also learn the difference between the possessive and plural cases.
If you don't know, then please stop typing.
"millions of deaths?" Um....please tell me you are joking. Every terrorist organization ever spawned since the beginning of time has not caused a fraction of that number of deaths or injuries. The United States, however, HAS caused millions of deaths, mostly to civilians. 2 nuclear bombs dropped on civilian population centers. We killed over 2 million civilians in Vietnam and Cambodia alone. Hundreds of thousands killed in Iraq and Afghanistan alone.
You need to take a closer look at who you are calling "terrorists."
"...deaths, over 100,000 Iraqis and Afghans killed..."
Typical sloppy reporting.
"Over one million Iraqis have met violent deaths as a result of the 2003 invasion, according to a study conducted by the prestigious British polling group, Opinion Research Business (ORB)."
I agree with you, but I think the author was probably using the most conservative estimates. Various studies by various organizations have pegged the total killed by the U.S. at 100,000 on the "low end" (as in "the u.s. "only" killed one hundred thousands civilians!"), all the way up to over a million. I tend to believe the higher numbers, but perhaps he was just playing it conservatively.
how sad that we have allowed private interests to become life purposes...
in our search for meaning, perhaps wresting control from those perpetrating, not only this violence, this ongoing devastation, but the thinking behind, as well, would suffice?
we could do it together, on September 22, 2012...
while we still have life, and a living world...
mostly...
USA Secretary of State Madeline Albright admitted to 500,000 Iraqi, deaths , mostly toddlers, caused by pre invasion USA enforced sanctions alone.
And for the fascist imperialist apologists among us that was pre 9/11.
The Lancet survey also estimates 600,000-900,000 dead Iraqi's after the last USA attack of Iraq.
PS looking at that phony OBL home video and the unimposing house, I now fall in the psyc-ops camp for the recently staged OBL murder.
When lucre defines the moral authority of a government and death is an acceptable part of the collection process; it is past time for that government to be terminated: with prejudice. Tony

I think the Neo-Cons, Bush, Cheney etc, and their Religious Reicht, have killed more like one and a half million Iraqis, mostly women and children. BO changed nothing.
Thank you Glenn Ford for remembering the economic sanctions against war torn Iraq. I cannot understand why people do not realize or care what America did to the Iraqi people, as ocean stated -"mostly women and children". It will be a blight on the American soul for years to come.
Not only did Ms. Albright admit to the deaths of 500,000 children. She followed up by saying it was worth it. Being the most ruthless country on Earth means never having to say you're sorry... for anything!
The grievous cost is that those responsible for planning and executing the attacks on 9/11/01 are still walking around free when they should be picked up, prosecuted for the crime(s) and punished. Worst of it is that the law enforcement and judiciary don't even have to leave the u.s. to do that.
Interesting, isn't it, how the 3,000 Americans killed on 9/11 is far more horrific according to most Americans than the MILLIONS we have killed before and since then.
I don't think most Americans can even grasp the concept of actually killing MILLIONS of men, women, and children. The number is simply too large for them to get their heads around. And, besides, "that's different" when the U.S. is the one doing the killing. And besides, the millions we have killed are just a bunch of terrusts. Who cares.
As Arthur Miller said:
"Few of us can easily surrender our belief that society must somehow make sense. The thought that the state has lost its mind and is punishing so many innocent people is intolerable. And so the evidence has to be internally denied."
